Jan Jędrzejewski

Jan Jędrzejewski, a native of Łódź, completed his MA in English philology at the University of Łódź and his DPhil in English at Worcester College, University of Oxford. On completion of his doctorate, he took up, in 1993, a Lectureship in English at the University of Ulster, where he is now a Professor of English and Comparative Literature.

He is an expert in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century English literature, particularly the novel, and in comparative literature, with a particular focus on Anglo-Polish and Hiberno-Polish literary relations. He has been involved in a number of academic and literary projects and initiatives, both within the UK and internationally, and his books include monographs on George Eliot and Thomas Hardy, scholarly editions of Hardy and Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, as well as a co-edited history of European literature, Lettres européennes (in French – an English-language edition is currently in preparation).

In his free time, he enjoys reading, travel, and chess. He lives in Portrush.
